Very true... and what you have noted should help correct one of the fallacies inherent in always thinking of shorts as horrible, evil people.

Shorting is as valid and ethical as going long, helps provide liquidity and acts as a brake on irrational market pricing.

Investors have to understand the difference between the basic value of a company and its share price. It is the disconnect between the two that leads one to buy when the stock price does not adequately reflect the intrinsic value of a company or short when the share price vastly exceeds that value even if it is a solid company...
