This must be a misprint:

DTC has on deposit 3.6 million securities

If it were true, it would exclude all stocks over 3.6M in O/S, which most of them. They must mean trillions.

Aside from that, it sounds to me like every stock that is a DTC participant has all it's O/S deposited with the DTC.
