I have only bought shares on the open market via my online broker, no certificates.
Like I suggested before, if you can not get your broker to accept them, demand they put in writing why they will not, then call other brokers, then a lawyer and sue who ever sold you these worthless certificates for fraud assuming, that is the case.
You must be assertive and aggressive, I have gotten written information TDA stated was "impossible to get" after threatening to close my accounts and sue them. This was regarding a different security.
You have get shitty with them to get information, its how they operate
