Well IMO if I was in his shoes and I believed, like you do, that this BRAV endeavour was a losing battle I would look at putting it on the market and try to sell i so I could enjoy the cushy life that some posters imply that I lead. As it is if he was as bad of a CEO as some imply than why stick around to continue working on the company when an early retirement is so much easier.
