#19308 RE: boston745 #19307

I`ll post a case study for funsies because otherwise it dies in the dark:

Dog goes in for a THA. metal cup with a UHMWPE liner and a metal femoral head gets put in. Develops infection. The femoral head and stem removed completely on revision surgery due to infection. Dog continues with infection. 3rd surgery removes the acetabular cup due to infection. The dog has 3 surgeries. the entire implant gets thrown in the trash. the dog is left with a femoral head ostectomy. This is basically cutting out the bone that joins the femur to the hip and leaving it that way leaving a bone gap. The muscles and tendons do all the work with no hip bone involved. You cant do this in people. They would wind up in a wheel chair.
