It's not as simple as 10 vs 7 vs 5 vs 3 vs 2, etc.

Different structures and processes work differently and have different cost/benefit relationships.

Given different architectural and cost relationships, and patent rights (licensing fees), a 7-nm solution may not be much better than another company's 10-nm solution, et cetera.
