Seems the interest is being accrued for the most part. He'll only see that "free money" if the unimaginable happens. Right now he would have been better off with a really big mattress to stick his money under.

I'll bet he gets up every morning thinking to himself "Boy am I glad we wrested this thing back in 2013!".
