The dam was just retro fitted and most likely upgraded to the 1MW and not all sources may have updated their info. As for why they are doing this, basically saving them $1,051,200 worth of energy to run their new mining hardware (the Anteater) to create a Super Crypto Mining subsidiary.
Crypto currency is not dead and is starting to get a little buzz here and there. There's talks that Germany may want to move away from the US controlled SWIFT system and be more independent from the dollar by using Bitcoin. If this starts to get some wind, some cryptocurrency may have bottomed and hopefully DPW will make us investors happy with their strategy.
