I'm not sure what you are saying. Suppose you lend out your shares to short sellers. Then you will not recieve the dividend because you are not holding the stock. Whoever the short seller sold the stock to, will receive the dividend.

YOU, will have to be compensated. Because you didn't receive the stock dividend. So the broker will try to get it from the short seller. How much? Well, again, FINRA has already determined the value of the distribution, close to $1. In cash...
