Some other factors to consider however is Biolox, according to some recent papers by Pezzotti et al, seems to have some phase instability issues as well as metal staining. Not exactly sure what that might translate to but if it leads go instability of biolox femoral head then that is not good.
Another factor to consider is Si3N4 particles actually inhibit osteoclasts while promoting osteoblast activity. Would this be sufficient to counter potential poly debris and prevent aseptic loosening? I have no idea. This is something Pezzotti should study if he hasnt already.
