The diverter he wants to use is for tubs that don't have an existing shower head. I agree with you. I'm not convinced it would fully divert the water to the setup on the side of the new spout.

Thought of that , and may have to get to shower body and cut the pipe to shower head through that large cover opening, that is sweat a cover cap on that part of the shower body outlet. See this is like a moon landing complicated, as goal is speed and the perfect thriftiness.
