I am really wondering where Intel is heading to. I mentioned years before: Micron would have made a wonderful acquisition for Intel but they were too busy looking for drone startups. Splitting up with Micron and making their own business makes me wonder if Intel wants to become a memory (flash) company by itself or if Intel is targeting niches with 3D XPoint. In both cases, one must wonder why they split up with Micron and for what reason.
Could be that Intel didn't like the reality Micron was presenting them with regards to 3D Xpoint that, either it is going to be a successor to flash or it is going to die in the niche - just a guess.
