That is, and are interesting point(s), but some additional details which may round out the scenario.

1. The parties (individual) stating such was ownership, who's only experience and knowledge of the industry and the very subject was several issues of High Times here and there. (Recent (new) player in space with no background or direct knowledge of industry)

2. Their foothold within the their market was not quite yet established....ie: Shouldn't you be focusing on your own operation, performance, profits before wanting to become Arjan?

3. Their belief was landraces for any number of reasons might hold a greater benefit to medical formulations, possibly even a "miracle" cure/product. Of course, this is not something that has yet even been truly addressed and still proceeding......ie: Which cannabinoids and in what ratios create which results, etc....and in the end, most can be captured from countless things readily available in some way, shape or form....but a longer story of course...

4.Their current product quality had quite a bit to be desired (quality, finishing times, dry, cure, etc)......ie: Why not try to "get it right" before starting to further expand.

This is yet another thing seen in the last several years; Larger groups seeking entry and rapid expansion without taking the time to get the first one right. A point and theme which greatly upsets and offends many, but while it may offend, certainly not offensive....ie: Why not get one operation right before rushing out to secure 20 :) LOLOLOL

Some other fun notes along similar lines:

I once came across a party (extremely large vertically integrated player) who, in their desire to capture the Charlotte's Web/CBD media frenzy, brought in a party with an impressive credentials, paid an extraordinary amount to not only retain them, but all relocation expenses, to have them magically create a CBD strain....(easily $250k cost)

Btw......there was another fitting the description above.

My reply?
There are literally dozens of breeders and hundreds of CBD strains of various ratios (as well as the wide range of pheno's within the stock of each). Tell us what you want, give us $5k and we can source the stock and be growing them all out within days after received and select exactly what is desired as well as any further development.

Translation:
"Orrrr.......you could just make a 30 minute visit to Attitude and spend a couple k and have the entire industry's current CBD stock at your fingertips lol.

The above being an illustration of players within the industry and their lack of understanding of such......ie: Instead of a 3k shopping trip, let's create a program that costs us $250k...

The guy they hired probably just logged into Attitude and spent $200 on a seed order (CBD strains) at which the owners absolutely marveled at his abilities and genius LOLOL...

On a serious note though....
One will note I am sometimes extremely vague......

I try to keep specific details out of any commentary, anywhere, anytime. While the stories/experiences/knowledge themselves are extremely valuable in any number of ways, I think bad taste and poor form to speak of anyone specific publicly...so.....I may share stories and such, but will never specifically name individuals, parties, businesses, etc....(luckily for many ;) lol...

I've seen it all.......
Large multi state producers whose "head of cultivation" (of all operations in all states) never grew a single cannabis plant prior to employment and title....

Large multi state operators whose head of cultivation (of all states) whose previous experience was in a 4 x 4' tent.....

100k cultivation's whose head grower salary is 45k a yr.....

"Owning the rights to a diverse seed portfolio"
As previous, this is being utilized more and more in the consulting world in the forms of "licensing" such use(s)...which again circles back to the above....ie: Why pay 20%, which for a sizable facility is an enormous price...when one can readily make their own...(Right back to the attitude bookmark or make a couple phone calls ;) lol......

I personally hold 30 year old RKS (authentic, original, various batches spanning many years) stock...we have 10-20 year old cuts....and so on.....

And this also relates to things previously addressed (new operators knowing and understanding the industry (their industry lol)....While the newer finance groups enter the space to reap their fields of gold, they are unaware, there is the "cultivation community" (operators), and then there is the real cultivation community...(a group that has existed for decades...very close, very tight....
