If you own 1000 shares worth 30,000 you can sell it and buy 10 $15 leaps for maybe $16,000 or less and have that $14,000 set aside for the next crash.

If you sell puts you need to leave the cash in your ACCOUNT anyway or pay margin interest.

I would only do the above with securities that pay low or no dividend.
