but what about the actual shares? as in the A/S or o/s. i would expect that they don't honor the fake ones (not trying to scare, who could be scared at this point? just want to know how the system handles this stuff) or that they need some kind of solution.

in effect, just for example, say NITE and UBSS have shorted 300 million shares. then, in effect they have increased the O/S (in this case) to 800 million and the a/s would be 1100mil. in essence, that's what naked shorting does.
