The USA contributes about 2/3rds of the Nato budget or about $650 billion of the $900 billion budget. Germany, in contrast, only contributed $40 billion.
In terms of GDP. the USA contributed 3.6% of our GDP to NATO, while Germany only contributed 1.2% of their GDP. Canada is an even bigger slacker at 1%. Each country is supposed to contribute 2% of their GDP. The USA is making up the slack for many of the partners.
