#19174 RE: Badbrain88 #19172

goodbrain88, if the two zones are very similar in nature (gas pressure, oil or no oil, watercut), then it makes little production difference to have one 300 meter zone for instance, versus two 150 meter zones. And, its probably easier to manage them together since they will not have to be isolated inside the casing. Downhole complexity might be better deployed isolating a gas only zone from an oil/gas zone, for instance.

If there are considerable differences between the zones, then I would prefer to keep them separate. For instance, maybe initially produce only the zone with low water cut until its water rises to the level of the second zone (years?), then produce them together. Bringing water to the surface unnecessarily can be very expense.

Since ZN said it was only a few days delay to test zones 2 and 3 together, then I made the assumption that the zones were very similar. Otherwise, if ZN thought it was a problem not being able to isolate the zones, then perhaps they would have not perfed zone 3 or taken considerably longer to try and find a way to isolate.

So, I took the news of zone 3 being tested with zone 2 as a very reasonable rationale for the few days testing delay, but not necessarily good news for increased production.
