geo, your experience drilling brine supply wells is very interesting. Were you ever involved directly in drilling an oil well?

The first major oil discovery in North America was in KY in 1818, 40 years before a discovery in PA launched the US oil industry! They were drilling for brine to supplant the dwindling salt supply in local caves and found oil. The well was beside the Cumberland river and the oil spilled over into it. Not sure how to clean it up, they lit the oil slick and set the river on fire all the way to Nashville! Those were exciting times.

In any event, bringing aqueous solutions from the deep is a long established mining practice that seems ripe for the application of innovative technology.
