I have always been conscious of the extreme bias in the New York media. They always seem compelled to either promote or destroy, regardless of what happens on the field.

My favortie example of this was the runup to the 1955 world series (you do remember that don't you?), when a columnist for one of the tabloids opined "Campanella loves fastballs, but he won't see Turley's." Right. First inning, Campy "rolled his wrists" and hit a fastball into the leftfield seats. Bums won the game and the series.

Because of this kind of self indulgence hyperbole I will regard a defeat for the Mets as a defeat for the New York media.
