From my research, they cannot short/borrow your shares unless your trading on margin (which you can't do in the OTC). There are situations where they will try to get your permission to lend out your shares and pay you interest, but that is rare. I always have my shares 'locked' in a GTC order, but it's just a mental thing, does nothing in the bigger trading picture.
