If Kim believes Trump will go to war to take out his nuclear capabilities, then that's the deterrent and would be his biggest fear. The current sanctions on N.K. are certainly hurting them, but whether that is enough for Kim give up his nukes is yet to be determined.
This whole deal IMO revolves around Kim retaining his power. Trump understands that. Taking Kim's nukes away is equal to defanging/declawing him. Kim has no bluff on the world if he gives up his nukes. That's why I'm skeptical he will. Time will tell.
