First post ever but read the posts here all the time. If I am not mistaken you can avoid having your shares used to short in a margin account if you were to put a sell order in as GTC (good till cancel) at whatever price you want. For example, I am working with a small account so I only have 2500 shares @0.67 average, but I have a GTC sell order in for $5 which I am going to increase very soon! I don't believe the broker can lend my shares out to short because there is a pending sell order against them. I could be wrong so if anyone has more knowledge on this please correct me if I am.

Also want to thank everyone here that are here for the right reasons and try to help others, you know who you are. I have learned a great deal and greatly appreciate it!!
