Harty, Could it be there was still an old sell order active, that you had placed but wasn’t completely cancelled yet?

I have tried to place a sell order for shares I don't own, just to test their ability to keep track of the number of shares I own. They knew how many shares I owned, and they showed me a different "error message" when I tried to make a short sale "by mistake".

TDA has other, unnanounced criteria for preventing an investor from doing a legal action with his own property.
