Post #of 25711 (edit-i add boldface for your specific question--gd)

Tom moderates a feedback thread on NYT, i thought i might contribute a couple flaws i feel he has in his argument, but saw by the feedback he was getting i did not need contribute.
He is taking heat already. So i am not going add to the fire.
I fully realize Tom is wholely sincere, but simply is not considering what massive hornets nest this is, and it will feed an already out of control desperate situation between a Palestine and Israel.
I note on his feed back thread is getting heat from leftist jews for crumbling and actually thinking Sharon wants peace, i believe Sharon no more wants peace than Arafat.
i see both Arafat and Sharon as poison, i frankly would shed not one tear if they both died of a massive heart-attack on the same day.
My position is so basic, it is pathetic, and that was, and i said it in a sorrow when it happened , that being when Begin announced he was going to encourage and escalate the building of settlements on the West Bank there was nothing but a nightmare in the future.
But come the Camp David with Clinton with Barack and Arafat; that Arafat was looking for approval from Hamas rather than being a leader himself, he had evolved into a man just wanting to remain in power, and Hamas is where he got it from.
I feel all effort should be put to peace between Palestine and Israel, and Tom thinking that Iraq will do it is just plain wrong.
But i now think it can not be done between the two people, it is like Northern Ireland(and Palestinian and Hebrews, the DNA sutdies show them so closely related one can consider they were one people at somtime--much like Ireland), the bad blood, and hatred immanates from significant hardened groups from both sides, it just feeds and feeds on itself, the eye for an eye will have no end.
Trying to establish blame is in itself going to change nothing.
Quite frankly it requires an extraordinary man from outside with the U.N. behind him(it can't be U.S. troops presence as we are hated so much are presence would only inflame.)
My peace plan has always been the same, ALL SETTLEMENTS closed down rapidly, and internatinal peace keeping force at the borders why the explosive period goes on, that many many Billions of dollars be given to reconstruct palestine and compensation need be provided for the removed settlers.
That the issue my be addressed regards the return of Palestians to Israel be resolved in Israel's favor.
Leaders truly wanting peace must be selected, and King Abdullah must be brought to understand a separate Palestine and Jordan will lead to still more explosiveness and unrest.
That Hamas and Hezbollah be dealt with directly and both recognized, and face to face asked what do they want, a free and viable Palestine with a possble merging with Jordan, with mass global asistance in return to their agreeing to be signees to a U.N. declaration as to Israels Right to Exist. And i can go on and on.
But this probably is as rose-tinted as Tom Friedman, and i fall back and see only darkness, the dread sense we are in a whirlpool spinning down into to the bottom of the sea.
I can envision a charismatic, sincere trustworthy man commanding respect from all sides, but i have no face for him, and i doubt that he exists.gd
