Already in 2017, Timur Turlov’s main task lied in taking Freedom Holdings Corp to the NYSE.

I read this as, "Timur Turlov's main task LAID in taking....." I believe he was referring to the TASK.

Although LAID could be LAIN....or not....the conjugation of the word LAY has always confounded me ;-)
