I still think we don't have a lot to base the buyout talk on, but I am genuinely perplexed as to what imminent plausible explanation there might be.

If it was something bad, I would presume that they'd be attempting to blitz every little thing to pump before the announcement, similar to the relative burst of news before the proposed offering.

If top management has fled at all, and for bad reasons, I would want to be out in front of that to undercut the degradation of investor sentiment.

But if something very good were in the works (ie, buyout), I sure as hell wouldn't want anything to leak. I don't know that it makes sense to demand a total media blackout. Even a perfunctory "no comment on anything" would quell a lot of this speculation.
