#12750 RE: gfp927z #12737

hey gfp, nice grundig. last one i had was portable one and all the tubes inside were telefunken, very expensive. you may want to go through it and price them out on the bay site, look at sold auctions to see if what they actually went for. telefunken are german tube and are known for their white lettering to come off if you breathed on them too hard. DO NOT try and clean them, serious buyers know that tube usually went from usage, to closet, to garage, to barn. covered with rat and roach poop and partially eating baxes. I paid about 45 for the radio and it had about 300 worth of tubes in it. you may need a magnifing glass to read the tube number, any smaller little markings printed on the tube can show what factory/country the tube was made. SO DON'T CLEAN.

i have a fake telefunken 12ax7, worth a lot if it was ligit, i will never sell it, the telefuken name and tube number are on the tube so hard I can't get the print off with my fingernail, fake....A lot of bad folks out there started making blank tubes for a dollar or two, and then printed them with identifiers that would make anywhere from a hundred dollar to five hundred dollar tube. lot of old tube equiptment has been found and put back into production. some of the names were even reclaimed, like Tung Sol, Mullard, and others. There are even videos on how to make the packing boxes look old, unreal.

If all that is out with the unit is the little bulb that sits behind the cover plate, it as an easy change. There might be two for three, depending on how they made it. I have only seen one bulb, like on the old Fishers...the bay has those little bulbs on it all the time. they can look the same but have different numbers.

I also have a 9 piece gurndig stereo that is cool, 3 open wooden boxes on top to store stuff, like records, grundig amp, turntable box, 6 or 7 foot long bench, and the really cool thing is that both speakers have their own huge boxes, and all pieces go together like a puzzel, and the grundig wood and a wooden face you can lower so it all looks like a solid piece of furniture.

last thing, when dealing with old amp it is by far better NOT TO PLUG THEM in as the 60 year power capacitors will likely blow. much better to invest in old varicac and power up slowly over a couple days.

seem likes lots of headwinds these days, as it has for YEARS~! yikes.

take care
