In my experience administrating other discussion platforms, a lot of shills and sock puppets are pretty lazy.. going through "extra work" is a deterrent for gaming the system in their favor.
I think you're right about that. Too complicated. It's far easier just to go to the hilarious Personmark Exchange board.
