Normally, it is when a stock, like ADVT will rest for a while until it continues its upward climb. A stock will not continue to make an upward climb but will meander on a certain price level (trading sideways) until the company publishes more fundamentals that makes the stock irresistible to new investors or a condition that affects the sector or the stock. During this consolidation period, the stock normally transfers into stronger hands--the weak hands sells--and the stronger hands take the stock forward to new heights when the conditions and fundamentals are favorable--that is call "the next leg up".
If the stock fundamentals are insufficient to support the price, the stock will continue its downward descent.
