Audited financials have value but they are not necessary for the company to function. Most pink sheet stocks are not audited and continue to function. The audit gives credibility to their reports and financial institutions require audited reports in order to provide loans. This lowers their risk. Most start up companies don't have their reports audited because of the cost and time involved.
