A New Standard in Weapons Detection

Patriot One Technologies, Inc. (TSX.V: PAT) (OTCQB: PNTV) is creating powerful technologies that mitigate security risks by covertly detecting concealed weapons via novel radar technology. The company intends to stem the spread of active violence through superior technology that delivers stand-off detection, even on moving targets.

Developed through a NATO-funded project at McMaster University, Patriot One's disruptive PATSCAN™ CMR technology is the first cost-effective solution to be offered for active shooter prevention. This first-of-its-kind, patent-pending solution boasts a "cognitive" ability to increasingly learn and identify new threats upon deployment, getting smarter and better at detecting hidden weapons with each scan.

Because Patriot One's technology is small, it can be inconspicuously placed in doorways, hallways and entryways to help prevent attacks in public places like schools, concert venues, stadiums, banks, airports, offices, hospitals, shopping centers and other "soft target" facilities. Concerns regarding subject compliance and privacy are eliminated with this pioneering solution, as subjects do not know they are being scanned for weapons possession and no image is generated of the individuals being scanned. Detection is real-time and entirely computer-based, which eradicates the need for human operators and the associated expenses, risks and inadequacies associated with them.

Wherever Patriot One's PATSCAN system is put into action, it instantly alerts security personnel when an active threat is detected. With an impressive 93% accuracy rate, the PATSCAN technology is designed to identify any individuals carrying guns, knives, suicide vests, etc., by analyzing metal content and relating it to a database of known weapon signatures. Patriot One believes the widespread use of this detection technology could effectively reduce terror acts and active shooting episodes throughout the world—a crucially needed service in light of increasing instances of these acts of violence across the globe.

The key to Patriot One's solutions is short-circuiting terror events through effective prevention technologies and security protocols. The company is working to become one of the foremost proponents and providers of innovative commercial weapons threat countermeasures solutions for general public safety.

The Threat

Recent world headlines paint a grim picture that clearly shows just how much devastation one individual or organization can create with a single terrorist action, effectively ending or forever changing the lives of innocent victims.

The global need for a cost-effective and reliable active shooter and threat management systems is indisputable. As Governor Tom Ridge, chairman of Ridge Global, first Secretary of Homeland Security, and advisory board member of Patriot One, stated:

"As we have seen in the Western world, our adversaries will continue to pursue so-called 'soft targets' such as transportation hubs, sporting venues, restaurants and office buildings. Almost by definition, democracies are soft targets. Patriot One has developed powerful technologies to mitigate these ongoing challenges while at the same time being less obtrusive to event attendees. Ridge Global is proud to work with Martin and his team to bring these innovations to the marketplace."
An "active shooter" is defined by the United States Department of Homeland Security as, "an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a con?ned and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims."

Many active shooter events and other terrorist actions target locations where there are few impediments standing between a terrorist and his goal—sites that have limited security measures in place to protect members of the public and that are described as "soft targets." Typically, such locations remain poorly protected due to the cost and unavailability of effective technologies to guard against such threats.

When it comes to active shooter events, there are never acceptable outcomes once the attack is underway. The key to ending these terrorist actions is to effectively prevent them. That is where Patriot One's first-of-its-kind technologies come into play.

The Solution

Patriot One introduces its disruptive PATSCAN CMR, which is the first system of its kind and the next-generation version of the company's award-winning NForce CMR1000 software and radar solution. This innovative cognitive microwave radar system is designed to instantly detect concealed weapons and help prevent active shooter and other terror events from ever occurring. Patriot One's game-changing solution also has machine learning properties, which enable it to learn, adapt and improve with each scan.

Current weapons detection technologies are plagued by various inadequacies, including the fact that they require compliance on the part of a target subject. Manually screening individuals one by one is also time-consuming and hampered by human error and false-positive results. Privacy becomes an issue, as well.

Patriot One's solution, developed in partnership with researchers from McMaster University, addresses the inadequacies of currently used systems and the primary concerns associated with them. For instance, PATSCAN can be miniaturized to the size of an iPad and then discreetly placed and deployed, doing away with concerns over subject compliance, as those entering a facility have no idea they're being scanned. Privacy issues are also eliminated, as no images are generated of the individuals being scanned. PATSCAN's frequency range is also aligned with international regulations that govern the safe use of microwave bandwidths.

With PATSCAN, the sluggish, time-consuming process associated with millimeter-wave scanning systems is eradicated, as are the line-of-sight inadequacies associated with that type of technology. PATSCAN can detect weapons wherever they're concealed on a body—behind the back, under an armpit, and in the various locations that other detection systems can miss. PATSCAN's antenna beam is broad and illuminates a subject's entire body instantly, "seeing" the target from multiple viewpoints and resulting in significantly improved detection outcomes.

Because PATSCAN is also significantly less expensive than other weapons-scanning technologies, multiple Wi-Fi networked radar units can be deployed in one venue or facility. Because detection is real-time and computer-based, there is no need for human operators, thus eliminating the risks and inadequacies associated with human-operated scanners. Whenever an active threat is detected, security personnel are notified by the system.

CURRENT TECHNOLOGY FAILS FOR MANY REASONS

The Opportunity

The high price of trying to prevent and/or dealing with the aftermath of terrorist actions, coupled with increasing global anxiety over these acts of violence, puts Patriot One in a prime position to become a world leader in providing state-of-the-art solutions to prevent terrorism events from ever occurring.

The frightening increase of terror actions throughout the world has brought the importance of security to the forefront for citizens and governments everywhere, making Patriot One's disruptive solutions more relevant and needed than ever before. Concurrent with the significant increase in threat activities throughout the world have been the resulting economic costs associated with preventing and recovering from these events. Conservative estimates put the economic costs at $52.9 billion in 2014, which was a 61 percent increase from the previous year.

The costs of containing this kind of violence are significant and greater than the direct costs of the acts themselves. IEP estimates the global national security expenditure to be approximately $117 billion.

“We need to put armed personnel in schools,” he said in the video. “We need to look at metal detectors. This is not going to stop or go away but we need to be prepared and we don’t need to have our heads in the sand.”

Later, when explaining who in schools should be armed, Jones suggested that retired police officers or military veterans could be hired as guards. Or, he said, perhaps school teachers need to be armed and trained.
