Many active shooter events and other terrorist actions target locations where there are few impediments standing between a terrorist and his goal—sites that have limited security measures in place to protect members of the public and that are described as "soft targets." Typically, such locations remain poorly protected due to the cost and unavailability of effective technologies to guard against such threats.

The Solution
Patriot One introduces its disruptive PATSCAN CMR, which is the first system of its kind and the next-generation version of the company's award-winning NForce CMR1000 software and radar solution. This innovative cognitive microwave radar system is designed to instantly detect concealed weapons and help prevent active shooter and other terror events from ever occurring. Patriot One's game-changing solution also has machine learning properties, which enable it to learn, adapt and improve with each scan.
Current weapons detection technologies are plagued by various inadequacies, including the fact that they require compliance on the part of a target subject. Manually screening individuals one by one is also time-consuming and hampered by human error and false-positive results. Privacy becomes an issue, as well.
Patriot One's solution, developed in partnership with researchers from McMaster University, addresses the inadequacies of currently used systems and the primary concerns associated with them. For instance, PATSCAN can be miniaturized to the size of an iPad and then discreetly placed and deployed, doing away with concerns over subject compliance, as those entering a facility have no idea they're being scanned. Privacy issues are also eliminated, as no images are generated of the individuals being scanned. PATSCAN's frequency range is also aligned with international regulations that govern the safe use of microwave bandwidths.
With PATSCAN, the sluggish, time-consuming process associated with millimeter-wave scanning systems is eradicated, as are the line-of-sight inadequacies associated with that type of technology. PATSCAN can detect weapons wherever they're concealed on a body—behind the back, under an armpit, and in the various locations that other detection systems can miss. PATSCAN's antenna beam is broad and illuminates a subject's entire body instantly, "seeing" the target from multiple viewpoints and resulting in significantly improved detection outcomes.
Because PATSCAN is also significantly less expensive than other weapons-scanning technologies, multiple Wi-Fi networked radar units can be deployed in one venue or facility. Because detection is real-time and computer-based, there is no need for human operators, thus eliminating the risks and inadequacies associated with human-operated scanners.
