Hi arizona1, yes I missed it. Thanks. My search simply brought back hits on his MAGA PAC, not his trademark application for MAGA. So using that I did another search and found timeline for Trump's presidential aspirations.

He started dabbling with the idea in earnest in 2010/2011, but deferred to Mitt Romney rather than compete with him for votes as a 3rd party candidate. Clearly I didnt take him seriously, cuz I don't remember this.

Based on the date of the trademark filing, Trump probably decided to initiate serious presidential exploratory activities right after Mitt Romney lost. But if you go back to 2015, it was clear he was holding back until he saw how the Republican candidates were shaping up. When he decided he didn't like any of them (in 2015), he announced his candidacy.
