LONDON, Ontario, Feb. 20, 2018 /CNW/ -- General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada announces it is a network partner of the Southern Ontario-based Next Generation Manufacturing Canada Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster, as confirmed Thursday, February 15, by the Government of Canada.

The Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster is part of the Innovation Superclusters Initiative, made possible through the Canadian Government's Innovation and Skills Plan.

"Advanced manufacturing is a key economic engine for South Western Ontario and as the second largest advance manufacturer in the region, and a leading Canadian exporter, General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada looks forward to collaboratively working with our Supercluster partners," said Danny Deep, vice president of General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada. "We have always taken great pride in staying ahead of technological advancements, in encouraging Canadian ingenuity, and supporting Canada as an innovation hub."

About Innovation Superclusters Initiative:

The Innovation Superclusters Initiative is an important co-investor in the success of Canada's manufacturing industry and aims to create a critical mass of innovation activity with gravity powerful enough to attract talent, technology, investment, and customers from around the world.

The initiative secures government investment in the Advanced Manufacturing sector over the period of 2018–2022, and is designed to support business-led innovation superclusters across Canada to encourage Canadian economic growth and innovation leadership.

Advanced manufacturing is critical to the success of the Canadian economy. This supercluster will build on the overlapping density of manufacturing and technology in Southern Ontario by helping manufacturers across Canada become world leaders in the application of advanced technologies, and by helping technology firms build the next generation of tools for advanced manufacturing.

The Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster strategy consists of three pillars:

Co-investment in collaborative, industry-led projects e.g. vision systems, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), data security, robotics, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing
Support of the creation of new tools, testbeds, and infrastructure to help create the next generation of manufacturing firms
Build-out of a robust ecosystem of supports and services that accelerate technology adoption in manufacturing i.e. technology readiness assessments, training and skills development, and go-to-market support
General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada is a defence industry leader in land and amphibious systems development and integration. Based in London, Ontario, it employs approximately 2,000 people in the design, manufacture and support of light- and medium-armoured vehicles, and are specialists in machining, materials, electronics, software development, prototyping, logistics support and systems integration.
