Well contractors like myself are doing less and less with Lowes and Home Depot these days- mostly what they have and sell is to the homeowner at retail and not best quality.

We purchase major products direct from lumber mills or such at better quality #1 Prime and such and elsewhere because we cannot get them from the Lowes or HD today and our customers demand the best lumber and product we can utilize.

It may be different in other regions, but in the Hickory, NC region, a few years ago, One such umber vendor for Lowes told me that due to the local economics of this area, they send worse lower grade product to this area based on that, and better quality product to other regions with higher $$$ economic conditions...
