#8704 RE: classof64 #8700

I think the Golan is very strategically important to Israel.

Most of the nations that border Israel have tended to have some level of dispute with them.

Although, Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia may be more friendly now.

Syria, Iran, and Lebanon - with Iran leading - have contention with Israel.

GNE is in Israel's Golan heights.

That ZN's MJ-1 is within Israel proper seems to make it somewhat more secure.

Now, with all the natural gas finds of the past few years offshore Israel, the nations round about, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt all want their slice of those resources. As do Greece and Turkey.

With the various nations wanting to pump hydrocarbon resources across the middle east to Europe, and with the hydrocarbon resources found over the past few years in these Levant Basin areas, Russia may have positioned itself in Syria for more reasons than just keeping a Mediterranean naval base.

That MJ-1 is within Israel comparatively is a very good thing.
