There's not a day that goes by where I don't have at least one ELP tune playing in my head. ELP was my first ever concert...

Saw them June 10, 1971, at the Stadthalle in Offenbach, Germany. Setlist was...

1-Pictures at an Exhibition (Modest Mussorgsky cover)

2-The Barbarian (Béla Bartók cover)

3-Tarkus

4-Take a Pebble

5-Knife-Edge

6-Blue Rondo à la Turk (The Dave Brubeck Quartet cover)

7-Nutrocker (Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky cover)

And again in 1974, somewhere in San Francisco. That’s when I first heard, during their “Brain Salad Surgery” our,

“WELCOM BACK MY FRIENDS TO THE SHOW THAT NEVER ENDS LADIES AND GENTLEMEN EMERSON, LAKE, AND PALMER!”

Then it was the end for me when “Works” came out. But Carl Palmer remains the best drummer of all time, nudging out Ian Paice and putting him in second. I must add that I am still saddened by the passing of Keith and Gregg. It was ELP that introduced me to and appreciate classical music.

And I still have all my original ELP LP’s. And that’s da truth!

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

I took my son to get a drum book at a big record store outside Philly. While buying the book, I turned around and he was on a drum kit set up for a demo and was banging away. It was a bad ass kit and turned out to be for carl Palmer who was giving a performance later that afternoon. That guy was a beast on the drums.

Does it count that I saw Yes seven times.
