The issue isnt with the audit itself or MAZARS. I'm sure they are a fine company and their work is beyond reproach. The issue is Steve's credibility. It wont be established that there will be an audit, until one is produced on time, as he said it would. He has made other comittments that have not happened, so this one is questionable until it is produced. All that you say can happen, but not until the credibility issue is determined.
