Hi, j3pflynn, hi mmoy - been another busy week but I finally am back with the component info.

To review: We have an HP dv9000t laptop (Core 2 Duo) and a year-old Win64 XP installation CD. The installation CD does not recognize my disk controller.

The controller reports these ID strings to Windows:

Intel 82800 1G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA
Intel 82800 1GBM SATA AHCI

I guess that is a single package with both the ATA and SATA interfaces; the ATA would be used for the DVD drive and SATA for the hard disk (all the hard drives offerred for this model are SATA).

I'd like to reformat the 10G emergency restore partition and use that to install the 64-bit OS, thus creating a dual-boot machine and not interrupting the user's work environment. This would prepare the machine for the 64-bit Adobe apps that the user wants to run next year.

I am wondering if a newer copy of XP-64 would have this driver. Alternatively, assuming a driver is available, I am wondering if I can make a new installation CD using the existing CD or by downloading the floppy images available from Microsoft. I see this article on MS' web site:

although it doesn't specify 64-bit vs. 32 bit... maybe a newer version of the installation CD may have it!
