I upgraded to the iPhone X last month and experienced something similar - it automatically made my phone inoperable when the car was in motion but all I had to do was tap “I’m not driving “ at the bottom of the phone and I could resume normal operation of the phone. I haven’t got my hands on Berman’s Besafe app yet but from what I heard, it’s somewhat more robust than what I see on my X as far as being a deterrent to distracted driving.
