The tobacco industry did more sales out of vending machines then stores back in the day and since they had no way to id sales from vending machines the machines became a thing in the back of the bar. With id verification it opens up an entire new market and gives an old market back...But keep in mind these are not vending machines, they are complete systems that can do much more then what you think of as a vending machine.
