ProjectoR: "Street name" means the shares in your brokerage account being in your broker's name. They have to be in their name so they can trade them for you. If they're in our name, we can't trade them. That's all it really means.

Shares are bought/sold so much that to put shares in individual's name would be a total waste and again, we don't have access to the "market". It's only through our brokers do we have access to the "market".

"Street name" is the name that the Brokers have(Ameritrade, etrade, choicetrade) and what the TA holds the shares in. Having them held in your name is just that, the TA will hold your shares in your name not your broker.
Harris is saying that he wants to know how to reach his shareholders and if it your shares are in the street name and not your he won't be able to, seems as if he is planning on having the share holders get access to certain info on line and it the shares are in street name then as a share holder you will not be able to get that information. It also seems that he planning on some special benefits for shareholders that hold the shares in their name....IMO
