#2618 RE: smart_sassy #2617

>>>>Something very similar has happened to me recently on a local messageboard (by the web administrators themselves!) and I'm still seriously considering pursuing legal action for harassing communications.<<<<

>>I think that is reprehensible. I would definitely consider some type of action.<<

It is, and I am. I've already had my attorney send them one letter requesting the identity of the person who posted the information. (It was my work phone number with a request that people call me.) I'm especially considering it, now that the main idiot (I actually think the other guy is just being duped by his 'business partner', who knows me IRL) admitted this morning in response to someone else's post that he knows the identity of the poster and actually knows him socially.

>>If someone posted personal inforamtion about me, I don't know what I'd do.<<

First, if it's a public venue like go.com, I'd immediately fire off an email alerting the site administrators to what's happened. I'd keep a copy of the posting (along with any identifying information) and request the administrators preserve the posters identifying information until they receive further communications from your legal representatives. Many people don't realize that a local attorney will serve (for a fee, of course) as a liaison to help you find a local attorney at the offender's locale and let him handle it for you at that end. It may cost you a little more initially, but you can always sue to recover legal costs -- especially if the poster can be made criminally liable for the posting. Many people also don't realize that the "harassing communications" laws in many places apply to all form of communication, from letters to phone calls, to skywriting.

>>I went to my go.com account and changed my profile.<<

Smart move. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to call my friend, Wehodababyitzaboi.

Pluse, I promised my attorney I'd have the draft of my will done today.
