there is no perfect answer.. there are many different exchanges offering many different marketplaces and different alt coins.. it really depends on which alt coins you want to buy/trade.. you can use the website https://coinmarketcap.com to figure out which altcoin has the highest volume on which marketplace.. then use this exchange for the specific altcoin. I personally don’t want to store my coins with coinbase .. bitrex and kraken are better
