I should take this opportunity to point out that the care of the judiciary is eventually placed in the hands of the political process, and Trump is appointing very bad federal judges, ideologues who lack ethics or experience (see example below). It's no consolation that all the other federal judges are high quality if the one you get assigned is not. And it would be a fair critique of my views that I am too sanguine that the 9th Circuit will get anything right, if it is also filled (or filling) with crony appointments.
