The piled-up volume of unsold Opterons appearing on pricewatch gives testimony to this dilemma.

Oh, we're not talking Opteron here. We're talking Athlon-64. We're talking about it being able to run the best game, the best video editor, the best database, the best spreadsheet, the best development environment, the best webserver, the best ... that that person really, really wants running on his/her home/office machine. Probably only one or two of the above apps per machine.

And why not buy Athlon-64 if it's price competitive, not just with P4, but also with the top-of-the-line Celerons?
