Coal is hugely detrimental to the communities around it. It is interesting the communities are so blinded from the paychecks from their lousy jobs they actually support coal in many cases. Honestly it doesn't matter. We could stop emitting carbon today and still be screwed in 30 years. The reality is we will not stop and we will be screwed worse in 15 years. Natural gas is much better than coal but the problem is it's still carbon.
