Scottrade won't let you trade it until the merger is complete TD in January

You have to buy it with a different broker or wait till then

This is nothing new, many PONT shareholders have had to change accounts to purchase this stock in the past

Scottrade requires each online trade be a limit order.

If one examines the various online definitions of a stock retirement/cancellation, the definition is usually negative towards a company's intent or purpose of such an action.
