IMHO think of the Reverse split this way :

Shares are a deck of cards total deck is 990 million cards

Derek is the dealer and the table holds hundreds of players who have been dealt five cards. The deck is now down to less than a 100 million cards.

Each player has a winning hand and is paid .20 cents(per card up to 4) for Derek to take four of the five cards back and place it in the deck.

New game starts and Derek's deck has added those cards to the deck and now the deck is back over 800 million cards and Derek is ready to play a new game but the players have to pay 1.00 a card instead of .20 cents.
