The War of 1945-'46 had sorta slipped out of mind. The Viet Minh fought British, French and Indians, and Japanese, who had not been repatriated yet because of conflict, in that one.

The War in Vietnam, codenamed Operation Masterdom by the British, and also known as Nam B? kháng chi?n (English: Southern Resistance War) by the Vietnamese, was a post–World War II armed conflict involving a largely British-Indian and French task force and Japanese troops from the Southern Expeditionary Army Group, versus the Vietnamese communist movement, the Viet Minh, for control of the country, after the unconditional Japanese surrender. .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_Vietnam_(1945%E2%80%9346)

A deal broken because Ho Chi Minh would have won the election hands down. So to a needless, terrible war.
