Intel easily has a bin or two of performance after the initial launch version of Conroe, after which they have the 45nm shrink in late-07/early-08. My only point is that they are a moving target, just like AMD's 65nm process (and, currently, they are far ahead!).

And AMD includes the memory controller. And apparently does consistently better at idle.

AMD isn't likely to catch up to Intel in term of process technology until Intel starts hitting huge roadblocks on the highway of Moore's Law. By the time AMD's 65nm process matures, Intel will be well on its way to launching its 45nm parts.
